25. German Liver Awareness Day
Following the motto “Liver good - all good”, there are various offers to find out more about the liver and liver diseases.
In Germany, an estimated 23% of the population have fatty liver disease, and the trend is rising. If left untreated, this can lead to cirrhosis (inflammation and scarring of the liver) or liver cell cancer. However, there are other liver diseases in addition to fatty liver disease.
The liver often suffers in silence, which is why many liver diseases are only discovered late. Early detection can be life-saving, as liver diseases are usually easy to treat. The therapy varies depending on the cause: e.g. antiviral medication for hepatitis B and C, immunosuppressants for autoimmune diseases, lifestyle changes for alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Get yourself tested! A free test for hepatitis B and C is now part of the “health check-up” from the age of 35.
The organizers of Liver Day are offering a telephone campaign to mark the nationwide day of action. By calling 0800 666 39 22, interested and affected people will have the opportunity to talk to experts on the phone about their questions on the liver and liver diseases. Today on November 20 from 14:00 to 16:00.
The recording of the “Webcast: 13th Leipzig Doctor-Patient Seminar on German Liver Day 2024” with exciting presentations on the topic can be found in the media library of Leipzig University Hospital (UKL)
